Ed, Some more oil change stuff:
1- If it is hot where you live, you can run 20w-50 instead of 10w-40.
2- More oil changes are better than less, and the book recommendations are the absolute maximum interval.
3- If you "smear" a little oil on the O-rings before you screw the filter back on, you're less likely to get leaks (just enough to wet them).
4- ALWAYS, ALWAYS (and did I say "ALWAYS" ?) use motorcycle oil, and NOT regular motor oil.
